It’s been 20years since the legendary Wu-Tang Clan took over the New York hip-hop scene with their monumental debut album Enter 36 Chambers. The group planned to release a reunion album titled A Better Tomorrow to celebrate their debut’s anniversary on November 9th. However, due to label disputes and growing tension within the group, the album failed to come out on its scheduled release date, and is now postponed indefinitely.

During an interview with grantland.com, group leader RZA released this statement:

“One of the guys who showed up the most was Method Man,” RZA said. “He showed the most tenacity, he was the most vocal, he showed up the most, and he got the most lyrics on the new album. He’s already recorded eight or nine songs. He’s been on it. You know, I give Cappadonna credit; he’s been really on it. U-God has been present. Masta Killa be representing. Inspectah Deck has been somewhat present. Ghost has been, you know, 20 percent present. And Raekwon hasn’t shown up at all. When you look at somebody like Masta Killa and U-God, they seem to have that original hunger to complete the legacy. I respect that everybody [is] busy with they own lives. I started with a plan that I thought would work. Now maybe my plan is not working.”

While many of the members, notably Method Man, are in complete support of a reunion album, other members, Raekwon and Ghostface, are seemingly M.I.A. and are hesitant to cooperate due to label issues and artistic differences. Raekwon openly opposed RZA (the group’s leader and head producer) on the musical direction of Wu-Tang Clan’s last album and has been quoted criticizing the group’s apparent lack of chemistry.

This is very disheartening news for hip-hop heads everywhere. Could this mean the end of the Wu as we know it? Voice your thoughts in the comment section!
