Following Sunday’s 31-24 loss against the Miami Dolphins and the Friday announcement of Fidel Castro’s death, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made controversial comments in support of Castro.
“I agree with the investment in education. I also agree with the investment in health care as well as the involvement in helping end apartheid in South Africa,” stated Kaepernick.
Kaepernick’s comments were met with much scrutiny, especially due to Miami’s extensive Cuban populations. Many criticized his comments for being insensitive and for sympathizing with a ruler responsible for the oppression and exploitation of Cuban citizens.
Kaepernick has been consistently criticized by the media since his August decision to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement by kneeling for during the national anthem.
